Sankofa Exchange
The Sankofa Exchange project embodies several key elements:
- It is being located in an area that has been identified as the Northeast Renaissance Urban Renewal Area. The area has also been approved as a tax increment financing district. Hence, The Sankofa Exchange will have access to planning, redevelopment, and financing tools to assist with development.
- The location is less than one tenth of a mile from the intersection of Martin Luther King and NE 23rd. And it is directly across the street from a newly planned development “King’s Crossing” a $30 Million dollar project that is scheduled to deliver a new grocery store, retail/office space and housing that will anchor the neighborhood. This is soon to be one of the hottest retail environments
- Traffic volumes for this area are estimated to be between 18,000 – 22,000 vpd
- Over 10 major employers are within a three mile radius (OU Medical Center, OK State Capital, Public Safety, Human Services)- see “ Area Demographics”
